Menu: Mixed vegetable meat soup with rice, fried egg and rice. Orange vanilla sponge cake

Meals served: 172

It was a really long queue with many new faces waiting in line for food. Word has spread that we are operating a daily hot meal kitchen and the geographical footprint has widened considerably with many coming in from Kathu to collect food packs.

So much so that Chef Sunee had to whip up extra meals to send off for delivery to the villages. We also had homemade orange vanilla sponge cake brought in by kind volunteers.

We were certainly busy hard at work packing all the meals! Volunteers are key to making the food relief program a success as Sunee and her family cannot manage it all. Should you want to help out, please contact us. We would love to have 1-2 volunteers daily to help out.

In our fundraising efforts, we had anticipated increasing meal service to 150 meals daily, instead, we are seeing more and more demand from folks in need of help and many wanting that hot meal for the day. So, please help us achieve our goals of providing at least 15,000 meals.

In times of desperate need, we are finding all kinds of ways to help the public. Separately, Aland and Sunee are also coordinating requests for survival food bags and hope to be able to send out a couple hundred food bags to those in need and to provide milk powder for young babies as these items are highly expensive. Do reach out if you feel that this is something you wish to contribute to as well. You may email us at the top of the page.

Menu: Massaman chicken curry with rice, rice porridge, biscuits

Meals served: 145

Since we started regular food service with our lot of donations (thank you kind donors), the queues for food collection starting earlier, even before 5pm. Many come to wait and ensure that they are able to get the hot meal. While we would like to believe it is because Chef Sunee's food is so yummy, it is more likely the reality is that many folks who are cash strapped or been out job searching all day, having a ready prepared hot meal helps reduce the number of things on their To-Do list.

The long queues starting early now. Everyone wants a good hot meal.

Everyone feels that eating out in Thailand is cheap, however feeding a small family can cost THB 200, even with the simplest of dishes. This is simply unaffordable in the current economic climate. So our hot meals come in handy. We like to know that we have touched the lives of these families positively.

Please help fund our good work and keep those hot meals coming. You can donate using our donation link.

NB: there was no meal service on 14 Sept, as the entire crew had to head down to immigration and get all the visas done in good order. Thai bureaucracy deserves its own entire blog post :)

Menu: Garlic stir fried chicken with fried egg and rice

Meals served: 150

Today, Chef Sunee made a wholesome garlic fried chicken with fried egg. Normally, for such a meal, it would cost THB 50-60 to purchase on the street. We are able to cook this meal and serve it for half that cost.

I also wanted to take the opportunity to thank Sunee for her tireless work, her amazing energy. She very often single-handedly prepares the food, cooks it and packs it on days where there are no volunteers to help. So, if you prefer to volunteer time and effort, rather than money, please contact us.

We are tracking the Thai government policies and news daily. The general mismanagement of the pandemic means that return of tourism will be significantly delayed. Therefore, we will not see tourism-related work return for the rest of the year. Hence, we are fundraising to provide hot meals until end of this year. We still have some ways to go to fundraise the full amount required. Please help us with achieving our goals of providing 15,000 hot meals!
