Menu: Boiled egg with chicken rice (Khao Man Gai)

Meals Served: 220

Today we had a record number of meals packed and delivered! 220 packs, many thanks to the big volunteer group that came in from YWAM Canada. We also had fresh volunteer expats from Phuket come in so the packing area moved outdoors. Thankfully, the weather held steady whilst the packing was underway.

Kudos to Sunee for managing to squeeze out 220 packs of food from our tiny kitchen!

We also provided food to the nearby Burmese camp, local villages and to the homeless by the Stadium in Patong. A very fulfilling day indeed and thank you volunteers for all the hard work!

Menu: Bamboo shoot chicken with rice, curry chicken, biscuits

Meals served: 145

After a week of no meals served, we finally opened the kitchen and it was a long queue to stand in the wet. This is hopefully the final weeks of rain in Phuket but it will be a very wet and stormy one.

We also welcomed new volunteers who had the wonderful heart to respond to our Phuket news. They had a quick onboarding and were off packing the meals up in record time.

Quite a feast was laid out for the food collection. And the food giveaway was chaperoned by our latest volunteer, Guy.

We are making a series of improvements to our operations going forward:

- Scheduling our volunteers

- working with partners to scale up program and look at sustainable processes to ensure kitchen operates rain or shine

- Looking at opportunities to also work with food providers that have near expiry goods, we are happy to be a point of distribution to contribute towards reducing food waste but also ensuring good food gets into people's stomachs.

Since we started increasing our food pack production, our kitchen has been running at full capacity. The kitchen sink finally gave way and we were out of commission for the week. Repairs are now done and the kitchen will resume operations on 11 October.

Since Phuket News ran a story on our food relief program, we have also been quite fortunate to receive multiple inquiries from volunteers. We only accept volunteers that have been vaccinated, as there is always a risk of contracting covid and being vaccinated means that we are all that much safer. Our volunteers health matter greatly to us and the team can continue to produce food batches if all of us are healthy and able! So do email us at hotmealsphuket@icloud.com to arrange to volunteer.

Whilst we were unable to cook this week, we gave away staples of eggs, rice and some dry goods to surrounding villages. Always ready to help!! We gave away more than 200 eggs this week.

And should you wish to donate something, do click here.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Aland and Sunee for their tireless work, our many kind donors who have kindly donated money, food and volunteers who help to make the food relief packing go a lot quicker! You are all stars!
